Many teams are being created to assist in the planning of the year long 40th anniversary of Saint Andrew. All of these teams are looking for someone like you to share your time and talent to help make our 40th anniversary even more memorable. Here is list of the teams that have been identified plus a brief description:

  • Archive Team – Work on collages/Digitize photos/digitize documents/search archive for interesing documents.
  • Slideshow Media Team – Create a celebration video that includes recording or videoing members and supporters/recording choir events or rehearsals/capturing or collecting photos of current events.
  • Mission Statement Team – Assist in refining our mission statement and creating a vision statement that reflects current and future goals and values of Saint Andrew.
  • Fundraising Team – Assist in the planning and execution of a small anniversary appeal that could be used for community benevolence and for sanctuary updates.
  • Event Planning Team – Assist in planning and execution of numerous events during the year including Lenten Worship, Zeerust visit, pasty sale(?), December 2020 main event, and other year long opportunities for events.
  • Publicity and Community Engagement Team – Assist in developing material and approaches for developing Facebook memories (through the year), media news releases, and advertisements for special community events to name a few.

Some Early “Firsts” about Saint Andrew

  • January 16, 1980 + Pastor John Roseth arrives in the Wausau area as a Mission Developer for The Lutheran Church in America (LCA)
  • April 27, 1980  +The first worship service held at Rib Mountain Elementary School with 270 people in attendance
  • July 27, 1980 +Church land at the corner of North Mountain Road and Partridge (3 acres) purchased and dedicated
  • August 11, 1980 +The first Vacation Bible School held with 60 students and 18 teachers
  • September 14, 1980 +The first Sunday School Classes held with 70 students
  • October 15, 1980 +The first Confirmation Class held with 7 students
  • November 3, 1980 +The first 1st Communion class held at Zion Lutheran Church with 20 children
  • November 26, 1980 +First Communion received Thanksgiving Eve
  • December 21, 1980 +The congregation organized as a member congregation of The Lutheran Church in America with 250 Charter Members
  • March 1, 1981 +Pastor Roseth installed as the first pastor of Saint Andrew.
  • April 19, 1981 +The first Easter Service was held with 309 attending and 10 adults receiving the Rite of Confirmation
  • November 15, 1981 +The first worship service held at St Matthew’s Catholic School Gym, the second temporary site for Saint Andrew
  • March and April 1982 +Midweek Lenten Services held jointly with St Matthew’s Catholic Church
  • April 11, 1982 +The first “Sunrise” Service held on the top of Rib Mountain with approximately 50 people in attendance
  • December 16, 1984 +Saint Andrew moves from St Matthew’s Catholic School gym to the new building walking procession travels from St Matthew Catholic Church’s to new site with a donkey carrying the communion and baptismal vessels
  • December 23, 1984 +First worship service held in the new church building; 384 attended
  • April 1986 +First Saint Andrew Pasty Sale
  • Summer 1986 +First Annual “Blessing of Pets and Animals” service
  • March 3, 1987 +The first Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
  • March 11, 1987 +The first Soup and Sandwich Supper (following Lenten services)
